A spoonful of sugar...

Spoons

Yesterday, Santa asked me to go pick-up something. Something for the girls, which I'm dying to show you, but just can't right now because my girls happen to check in on my blog from time to time. So, you'll have to be patient just like my girls.

Anyway, on my way back home I passed this little antiques store. It's a cute little store not very far from where we live, but somehow I never made it inside. But yesterday, I did. And I'm glad I did and I will go back.

I found myself a little present there: a set of three little spoons (they actually didn't belong together, I simply chose them that way). Nothing of value, really, but I just fell for their shape and size. The smallest one is just the size of a teaspoon - and the biggest one is about the size of a rather small tablespoon. The lady at the store asked me what I intended to use them for and had that weird look on her face when I told her I wanted to photograph them. Because that's what I like to do: get me some props and shoot pictures.

The above pictures I just shot randomly when I was taking the spoons out of the tissue paper she wrapped them in. I had a couple of spare minutes before going to get the girls from school. No time for setting up the light studio or even to think of intricate set-ups. All I used was the tissue paper, the poor light of a floor lamp and my macro lens (did I mention already I'm pretty much in love with my macro lens?).

The fun part is that by photographing those spoons I got to see the details - things I didn't even notice when I picked them at he store: the silver plate stamp, some other stamps as well, the marks of being used, the minor discolorations and tiny dents, the way the light is reflected differently by each one of them because of their particular shape... I really love this kind of exercise - "the seeing through the lens"-thing...and it got even more fun since I got myself that macro lens.

Did I tell you yet, how much ...?
Yes I did, didn't I?
